This Perth to Busselton road trip guide will show you how to spend one to three days in Busselton and the surrounding area.
3 Days Road trip from Perth
Set out early today for the 2.5-hour journey to Busselton. Take advantage of daylight if this is a day excursion. Start your day with a visit to Busselton Jetty by setting your GPS. Coming early in the morning is better for photography due to the light angle.
A lot can be done on and around the jetty. The beach it extends from is white and great for swimming. You can explore the jetty in various ways. My favourite is the small train that goes the length of the jetty. You can drive there, but it’s 1.8km either way! Underwater exploration of the jetty is the last. Visit the Underwater Observatory at the end of the jetty to witness lots of marine life without getting wet! Exclusive to 6 countries, this experience includes a train ride. Dive Busselton Jetty offers scuba diving and undersea walks. Rent snorkel gear. However, they don’t function in winter.
This little community is 25km west of Busselton and near several of the region’s greatest attractions. If you’re hungry, substitute the next two destinations for our recommended lunch alternatives. If you’re taking the Perth-Busselton road trip in 2 or 3 days, stopping in Dunsborough will place you near tomorrow’s attractions.
The Dunsborough Center is less than 10 minutes from this amazing cave system. Semi-guided tours leave every 30 minutes for one hour. After the guide’s introduction, you’ll explore the cave. A boardwalk and intelligently positioned lighting emphasize the greatest formations in this cave, providing a high-quality visitor experience. In the tourist centre, interpretive displays explain the cave’s natural history and native legends.

Wise Wine/Eagle Bay Brewing Co. lunch
You should have a good appetite by now. Two great restaurants and bars in Dunsborough provide great food and views. Options are opposite each other across Eagle Bay Rd. From their hilltop perch, you can see the coast. The main attraction at Eagle Bay Brewing is its beer and pub fare. The cheaper of the two is for informal dining. Wise Wine serves more refined food for a special occasion or to treat yourself. They make high-quality wines and spirits locally.
Enjoy The Beach
After a hearty meal, lounging on a towel in the sun is ideal! Some of W.A.’s nicest beaches are in Dunsborough, leaving you spoiled for choice. On a one-day Perth-Busselton road trip, drive straight for Meelup Beach. Soft beach and tranquil swimming make this secluded harbour a relaxing spot. Bunker Bay is another beautiful beach with a lengthy stretch of sand if you want more space. It’s near to the next stop and Bunkers Beach House is a great lunch spot.
Cape Naturaliste Light
This 1904 lighthouse still operates. Guided lighthouse tours leave the tourist centre every hour, explaining its inner workings and offering the best views. A wonderful viewing platform overlooking the coast lets you experience the region without a tour. The lovely lighthouse and crimson door are wonderful photo opportunities. The visitor centre charges for site access. Whale migration season runs from early September to late November; you may see them here. You can come near tomorrow if you’re travelling for several days.

Accommodation in Dunsborough
Dunsborough Beachouse YHA has affordable private rooms. Backyard beach and BBQ facilities. A complimentary shuttle takes you into town.
Lanterns Retreats is Dunsborough’s greatest value. Their rooms are luxurious with huge tubs. Town and the beach are within walking distance, and the communal lounge is great.
Pullman Bunker Bay Resort – Relax after a day of exploring. Their pool is beautiful, and Bunker Bay is nearby. A bar, restaurant, and spa/fitness center are available.
Explore the Coast
This is the farthest south point on the tour, therefore, you can return to Dunsborough from here. The closest parking lot is ‘Moses Rock Rd Carpark’. A 5.3km beach track leads to the falls from here. This secluded beach stroll is a terrific way to start the day. Summer may dry up the falls. About 1.5 hours to walk.
Nature Spa Injidup
After returning north along the shore, Injidup Natural Spa is recommended. This appealing rock pool has a semi-closed ocean channel. When waves hit the coast, water flows over rocks to form a stunning waterfall.
Canal Rocks Bridge
This beautiful bridge crosses a tiny canal between two rocky outcrops, making it ideal for photographers. The ocean flow underneath is fascinating amid high swells.
It’s back up the peninsula toward the lighthouse. Being far from the other sites on this list, you may wish to leave it for later. Tonight’s sunset is amazing from this lookout. Large Sugarloaf Rock is isolated from the mainland by a tiny waterway. The high overlook gives coastal vistas and an opportunity to see dolphin pods.
Country Life Farm
For families travelling from Perth to Busselton, this is an excellent stop. This extensive petting zoo lets youngsters feed and pet farm and native animals. The playgrounds and rides are extensive and varied. They offer picnic and BBQ facilities so that you can have lunch there.

Eco Tour: Dunsborough Whale Watching
Waiting until whale calving season to drive from Perth to Busselton is worth it. This is the best place to see humpback, southern right, and hopefully blue whales. From June, whales travel north along the coast. They give birth and raise their calves in Dunsborough’s sheltered coves in the season above. This is when you’ll almost certainly see them up close. This recommended excursion leaves Dunsborough on a contemporary boat with food. Marine biologists lead the trip and provide informative information while protecting these gorgeous species.
As the Sugarloaf Rock section above indicates, this area is great for ocean sunsets. Drive carefully at sunset since several kangaroos jump on the road.
Most of the area’s highlights were witnessed in the final two days. There are various third-day activities. Check any locations you missed above first. Second, spend the day relaxing on the beach. We have many gorgeous beaches, and trying new ones to pick your favourite is fun. My third and favourite choice is a Margaret River wine trip. Despite growing only 3% of grapes, this world-class wine region produces 20% of Australia’s finest wine. Remember that this excursion may require a third night in your hotel.
Margaret River Winery and Brewery Day Trip, Gourmet Winery Lunch
The trip has an exceptional 5-star rating from hundreds of reviews. They pick up in Busselton and Dunsborough. The day will include tastings at top local vineyards and a great lunch of local vegetables. Don’t forget the great craft beer culture. This tour visits a top craft brewer and a cheese and chocolate maker. A great way to end your southern vacation.
