Moreton Island, which is situated in Brisbane’s backyard, is a paradise for intrepid vacationers. Consider hand-feeding wild dolphins while snorkelling with colourful fish, speeding down a dune, dipping into a blue lagoon, and other activities. Beautiful beaches with surfable waves surround the Moreton National Park, which takes up the majority of the island’s centre and covers 95% of it.
Your day trip package with Tangalooma Island Resort must be reserved in advance. So that you don’t have to worry about making reservations when you arrive on the island, they have many packages available that include your ferry transportation, lunch certificates, and activities.
ATV Quad Biking Day Cruise, Snorkel the Wrecks Day Cruise, and Desert Safari Day Cruise are a few examples. The included activities in the packages include the well-known dolphin feeding experience. Fortunately, the final ferry leaves from the same spot where the dolphins are fed.
When you board the ferry, you can receive a package with a map of the island, coupons for excursions and meals, and other items. When you arrive, make a reservation for the Beach Day Cruise before making a reservation for the activities.
What To Include
Bring Warm Clothes
If you decide to take the huge ferry, bring some extra clothing because it can be chilly if you’re sitting up on the top deck like we were. When we went in June, it was freezing at night but rather comfortable during the day.
Lockers At The Resort
Some resorts offer $2-a-day locker rentals behind the front desk. You’ll need to put an additional $2 in the locker to keep your items safe if you ever access it. You can use the lockers to store your belongings.
What Not To
No Drone Allowed
Unfortunately, as Moreton Island is a part of the Moreton Island National Park, dogs are not permitted there. We always hire Mad Paws to look after our pets in the neighborhood, and it’s been a great success.
Experience Of The Tour
With an all-day cruise from Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, or the Gold Coast, you can enjoy a relaxing day on Moreton Island while seeing the beaches, snorkelling spots, and enormous sand dunes. Travel from the sea to the sand with an expert guide in a tough 4-wheel drive vehicle as you kayak the coral reef, snorkel at the Tangalooma Wrecks, and head inland to try sandboarding on the dunes.
What to Expect from the Tour?
Let’s discuss about where you can go on Moreton Island Day Trip and find out about the experience you can gather.
Step On Tangalooma Island Ferry
To board the Tangalooma boat, you must travel to Pinkenba’s Holt Street Wharf. On the way there, we questioned whether we were going in the right direction, but as you get to the water, you’ll notice the ferry sign.
You can buy a coffee while you wait for the ferry at a coffee shop made out of a shipping container at the ferry dock. It is advisable to arrive an hour early, and you can leave your car in a safe parking lot while you are there.
Three ferries go to the island, and we rode the biggest with the deck up top. It’s a 75-minute ferry voyage, so if you don’t do well on boats, bring seasickness medication.
Snorkel The Tangalooma Wrecks First
You initially arrive on your day excursion from Brisbane, and we advise that you swim the well-known Tangalooma Wrecks. The tour operators we spoke to said that the best time to snorkel the wrecks is in the morning when the fish wake up, and it’s teeming with life.
It was around 1 pm when we went snorkelling, and the water was so rough that the visibility was poor, so we didn’t see very much. The lake was as flat as a pancake when we got up the following morning. Personally, I think we should have gone early in the day when the water was calmer and clearer, giving us a better opportunity of spotting the undersea wonders that are buried beneath the surface.
You can leave your items above the lockers for free or pay $10 to store them inside when you go snorkelling. As the boat might get fairly wet, we were instructed to bring our GoPro simply.
At The Beach Cafe For Lunch
After washing off, go to The Beach Cafe for lunch. Grab a seat in the sunshine and enjoy the ocean views because the outside is prettier than the inside. Salads, fish & chips, burgers, and pizza are all on the menu. The rather tasty beef nachos are available for purchase.
Afternoon Quad Biking
You can prepare for the ATV quad biking excursion after lunch. Although, at first, you can feel a little nervous about the quad bike. The finest activity on Moreton Island, in all honesty and this is coming from someone who isn’t even a fan of quad biking is quad biking. On the beach, an entire circuit is made specifically for quad biking full of turns and routes high enough to give you a breathtaking ocean perspective.
Dinner At Fire And Stone
We advise going to Fire & Stone, an Asian eatery that serves Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine, for an early dinner. After that, you can drink on The Wheelhouse Deck and enjoy the sunset. We must admit that the sunset we witnessed was one of the nicest we’ve seen in a long time. It will be spectacular as the sun sets over the lake.
Q: Can You Spend The Day On Moreton Island?

A: Holt Street Wharf in Pinkenba, Brisbane, is the departure point for passenger ferries travelling to Tangalooma Jetty on Moreton Island. Brisbane to Tangalooma travel takes only 75 minutes one-way, thanks to the four daily boat services that run both directions.

A: Driving on Moreton Island requires a vehicle entry permit. Fees apply, and camping permits are necessary. A camping tag bearing your reservation number must always be visible at your campsite. The island has no self-registration; all camping permits must be secured before travelling there.
